Our every finger has an assigned organ and when we assume a particular mudra, a specific organ gets activated because of the energy flow, curing several diseases and ailments like hypertension, blood pressure, sugar, and weight-loss issues as they make your metabolism and digestive system better.

All our health issues rest precatiously on the balance of the five elements- air, water, earth, fire, and space- in our body. Surya Mudra

As the name signifies, Surya mudra increases the flow of fiery energy in your body, thus decreasing the earth element in your body. This is, in turn, boosts the vitality and metabolism of your digestive system, helping in lessening the accumulation of fat inside the body and allows you to aim for a leaner frame.

Performing the mudra

Place the base of your thumb on the tip of your ring finger, which represents the earth element, and cover it completely. Put pressure on the finger gently to activate the fire element, that will lead to weight loss. Do this every day for 10-15 minutes.

Precautions to take

  • As this mudra increases the body temperature, don’t do it if you have fever.
  • Particularly known for its weight loss effects, this mudra is not ideal if you are underweight. 

Vaayan Mudra

Not only does this mudra aid in weight loss, but it also helps in improving our nervous system, curing urinary problems, curbing heavy menstrual bleeding, and it is also good for our hair and skin.

Performing the mudra:

Touch the tip of your thumb, i.e., the fire element, to the to tips of your index (air element) and middle finger (sky element). Apply gentle pressure. 

Precautions to take:

As the Vata humor controls the nervous, this mudra should be avoided by  people who have an excess of Vata.

Pitta-Kaarak or Kapha-Naashak Mudra

A combination of fire and water elements, the Kapha Naashak Mudra aid in improving our digestive system and reducing the accumulation of fats. For effective results, do this hand mudra for weight loss for 40-45 minutes.

Performing this mudra

You need to place your the ring and little finger under the base of your thumb, and then gently apply pressure on the fingers via the thumb. This mudra also improves the interactivity of the thyroid and eye vision.

Precautions to take

The Pitta humor is exponentially increased via this mudra, which strengthens the body heat and the circulatory system. So, it is not advisable for you if you have an excess of pitta in your body.

Gyan Mudra

Though the Gyan Mudra is not directly involved when it comes to weight reduction, it does have some indirect effects as practising this mudra reduces stress, which is a major reason behind people opting the habit of over-eating and hence gaining extra weight.

Performing the mudra

Cover the tip of your index finger with the help of your thumb and allow energy to flow through your body by applying a little pressure on the tips of your finger. If you are expecting the best results, then remember to practice this mudra for 30 minutes every day.

Precaution

If you have an excess of Vaata prakruti (constitution), then either you should completely refrain from performing this mudra or do it in moderation. 

Linga Mudra

With the word “Linga”, meaning the male sex organ i.e. “Phallus” (rather self-explanatory), this mudra basically intensifies the sexual drive in men. Thus practising the mudra daily intensifies your body heat, which in turn improves the digestion power leading to shedding of body fat.

Performing the mudra:

Clasp your hands in front of you, leaving out the left thumb, which must be facing upward. Place your locked hands on your lap and exert a little pressure on your left thumb. You need to practice this mudra daily, for 30-45 minutes to see positive results. 

Precaution

If you have a fever, no matter how mild it is, you should not perform this mudra. Also, if you are suffering from pita Prakriti, the practising the Linga Mudra will debilitate the Pitta bodily fluid inside the body and cause sluggishness and lethargy. 

While the above-mentioned mudras are, no doubt, instrumental in aiding weight loss, they would barely bring across any change if they are not coupled with a healthy diet and a proper fitness regime. They are effective solutions, not magical spells, remember to keep that in mind.
