Akshay Kumar, Twinkle Khanna, Taapsee Pannu: Celebs share Childhood Pictures And Ask #WhyTheGap

Share your childhood picture and ask #WhyTheGap!

Do you remember the Kiki challenge? A challenge that spread like a forest fire and received a great amount of flak because of the unsafe practice it was promoting. Well, looks like we have some new challenge to talk about. Very recently, a new movement called #WhyTheGap is doing the rounds on Instagram. It’s a socially conscious campaign talking about the underprivileged kids and their daily problems – No proper meals, detraining hygiene conditions and poor education, to name a few.

Save The Children is a non-profit organization working towards improving the living conditions of these kids. The organization started a 100-day long digital campaign to start the conversation around acknowledging the gap between the privileged and the underprivileged and then proactively reducing it.

Pragya Vats, a leading figure from Save The Children said, “Our main aim with centenary campaign #WhyTheGap is to raise awareness, inspire action and change public perception towards issues that inhibit children from achieving their true potential like good nutrition, access to school, protection or healthcare. The privileges we take for granted can make a tremendous difference for children who miss out.”

Among the celebs, actress and writer Twinkle Khanna first acknowledged the campaign on social media. Later, many celebs like Taapsee Pannu, Akshay Kumar, and Dia Mirza also participated in it. Let’s take a look at what they had to say!

Twinkle Khanna kick starts the campaign and asks #WhyTheGap

Twinkle Khanna, the veteran Bollywood actress is the ambassador of ‘Save The Children.’ She, together with the team, started this initiative called #WhyTheGap. She shared a childhood picture of herself in a privileged environment and tried to point out the disparity and the gap of living conditions that kids endure. Her post also gave a rather sad trivia about the condition of education in our country: Two out of five girls don’t complete their education in India.

To amplify the effect of the campaign, everyone who posts under this campaign further nominates a few close friends/family, to take it forward. The chain started from Twinkle Khanna and now is spreading really fast.

Celebrities join the bandwagon and share their #Throwback childhood pictures

It was wonderful to see our Bollywood celebrities taking part in this initiative actively and expressing their concern for the cause. It takes a lot of courage to accept that you have grown in a privileged environment and that it is unfair since there are millions of kids out there who don’t even have a bed to sleep on.

Bollywood actors, singers, sportsmen, sportswomen: Everyone’s voicing and supporting the cause.

Here’s what they have to say:

Time to ask and be the change!

With the wonderful work and campaign that ‘Save The Children’ is doing, it is so important that we do our bit, even if that means doing as little as participating in this digital campaign. Go on, share your childhood picture and ask #WhyTheGap!
