Ezra Matthew Miller is an American actor who lit the fire of their career by starring in the Lynne Ramsay directed 2011 drama “We Need to Talk About Kevin” and now stars as the speedster superhero Flash in DC’s Extended Universe (DCEU). They are known to play quirky characters with humour in many teen flicks and a few years back, they also became a part of the Fantastic Beasts series. Their upcoming projects include his DC character’s solo film, “The Flash”.

Early Life & Childhood

Ezra Matthew Miller was born in Wyckoff New Jersey. Ezra’s mother, Marta Miller, is currently working as a contemporary dancer while their dad, Robert S. Miller, worked as the senior vice president and managing director of the famous publishing company, Hyperion Books. After which he went on to work as a publisher himself at Workman Publishing. They were born alongside two sisters who are older than them, Saiya Miller and Caitlin Miller. Ezra Miller is of mixed descent as their mother is of German-Dutch origin while their father is Jewish.

When Ezra Miller was 6-year-old, they started to train and sing at an opera to help get rid of their speech impediment. They have performed at the famous Metropolitan Opera in New York, and also sang at the American premiere of the Philip Glass opera titled “White Raven”. Ezra Miller got their education at the private institution of Rockland Country Day School and later went on to study at the Hudson School.


Ezra Miller’s life turned around in 2008 when they were cast as the lead in Antonio Campos’s indie drama “Afterschool”. Ezra played the character of the teenage kid, Robert, who accidentally finds himself witnessing the death of two of his batchmates from poisoning.

A year later, they starred in the comedy-drama “City Island” alongside the cast of Andy García, Julianna Margulies, and Steven Strait. In 2010, Ezra Miller starred in two films, both of which were premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. These were “Beware the Gonzo” where they played the protagonist and “Every Day”, in which they had a supporting role.

In 2011, Ezra Miller was critically acclaimed for their role in Lynne Ramsay’s film adaptation of the novel of the same name, “We Need to Talk About Kevin”. They played the role of Kevin, who transforms from a finicky kid to a sociopath as the film progresses. Ezra Miller starred alongside the Academy Award-winning actress Tilda Swinton and John C. Riley.

Ezra Miller has also acted in TV shows, as they played Damien in the famous comedy series “Californication”. They made an appearance in another TV medical drama called “Royal Pains” as Tucker Bryant for two seasons. Another career milestone for Miller came when they starred in the famous film adaptation of the novel “Perks of Being a Wallflower” in 2012, where they played the extroverted character of Patrick, they starred along with Logan Lerman and Emma Watson.

Ezra is not just an actor, as they also focused on their singing and made the band, Sons of an Illustrious Father in 2011. In which they not only sing but also play the drums on the songs. Other band members include Lilah Larson and Josh Aubin, who form the trio with Miller.

Ezra Miller became part of the prequels of the cult-classic Harry Potter series “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” in 2016, they were cast in the role of Credence Barebone and they reprised the role in the 2018 sequel and are set to make a return in the upcoming third instalment.

Ezra also became part of the DCEU films, when they appeared in a cameo of 2016’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and also in “Suicide Squad” as the superhero Flash. They later made a full appearance as the hero in 2017’s Justice League and also in the recent Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

Ezra Miller is confirmed to reprise the role of Flash in the upcoming solo-film “The Flash”.

Personal Life & Family

In 2012, Ezra Miller came out as queer, and they have also addressed the complexity of their identity. They informed the Daily Beast by stating that “The way I would choose to identify myself wouldn’t be gay. I’ve been attracted mostly to ‘shes’ but I’ve been with many people and I’m open to love whatever it can be.” 

Miller also uses the pronouns they/them and have also told GQ Britain that they don’t like the concept of being gendered. “I don’t identify as a man. I don’t identify as a woman. I barely identify as a human,” they informed the magazine.

Although Ezra Miller’s public love life only consists of women. They were engaged to the actress Erin Urb for two years from 2014-2016 before splitting.

Before this, Ezra was linked to the famous actress Shailene Woodley in 2016, Lauren Nolting in 2011, the upcoming Batman star, and their co-star from the movie “Beware the Gonzo” Zoe Kravitz in 2010.
